This sensor is an 8x8 array infrared thermal sensor. When connected to your microcontroller (or Raspberry Pi), it will return an array containing 64 independent infrared temperature readings via I2C. It is like those peculiar thermal imagers, but it is small and easy to integrate.
This section will measure the temperature range from 0 ° C to 80 ° C (32 ° F to 176 ° F) with an accuracy of +-2.5 ° C (4.5 ° F). It can detect humans up to 7 meters (23) feet away. The maximum frame rate is 10Hz, which is ideal for creating your own body detector or mini thermal imager. We have code that uses this breakthrough on Arduin0 or compatible (sensors communicate via I2C) or Raspberry Pi using Python. On Pi, with some image processing help in the SciPy python library, we can insert an 8x8 grid and get some pretty good results!
AMG8833 is a new generation 8x8 thermal infrared sensor, with higher performance than its predecessor AMG8831. The sensor only supports I2C and has a configurable interrupt pin that can trigger when any single pixel is above or below the threshold you set.
To make it easy to use, we chose and placed it on a board with a 3.3V regulator and level shifter. Therefore, you can use it for any 3V or 5V microcontroller or computer.
